Fenwick, an emerging Catholic League power ranked 12th in Chicago area going into the game, used a balanced offense and stingy defense to trim the Leo Lions 39-8 at the Kroc Center on Friday, Sept. 17.

The Lions are 2-2 against a tough schedule and probably need to win three of their remaining five games to have a shot at the IHSA playoffs.

Special teams accounted for all eight Leo points. The Lions registered a safety when a snap sailed over the head of the Fenwick punter and into the end zone in the second period. In the fourth, senior defensive end Ron Nelson blocked a  field-goal attempt and ran it back 78 yards for  touchdown.

Leo goes back on the road on Friday, Sept. 24, traveling to Kankakee to face Bishop McNamara. Bishop Mac is defending state champion in Class 3-A, the second of three state champions the Lions will face this season.
