Leo mourns the passing of five beloved members of the Leo Family who have passed on since the start of the school year. Each Leo Man is remembered in our daily prayers and monthly masses.

THOMAS FITZGERALD ’59. During a legal career distinguished by groundbreaking death-penalty reforms, Judge Fitzgerald attained the highest rank in the state judiciary when he was elected to the Illinois State Supreme Court in 1999. In 2000 he was elected Chief Justice and held that position until his retirement in 2010. Judge Fitzgerald was 74 when he died at his La Grange home on Nov. 1.

MICHAEL U. MCDERMOTT ’32. Founder and longtime proprietor of M&D Provisions, Mr. McDermott was believed to be Leo’s oldest alum when he died at his retirement home in  Marco Island, Fla., at 101 on Oct. 8.

WILLIAM T. GLASGOW ’47. Mr. Glasgow was one of the leading figures in the trade-show industry nationwide. His friends and colleagues have contributed more than $3,500 to Leo’s Scholarship Fund in his memory. Mr. Glasgow was 86 when he died at his home in Mokena on Oct. 23.

RICHARD ROWAN ’49. Mr. Rowan’s love for Leo was matched only by his love for his family and the Chicago White Sox. A retired civil engineer for the City of Chicago, Mr. Rowan was 84 when he died at his home in Chicago on Sept. 22.

MARTY GAVIN ’68. Fondly remembered as one of the wittiest members of the Class of  ’68, Marty attended Marquette University after graduating from Leo. As a Chicago policeman, he achieved the rank of detective. Mr. Gavin was 65 when he died at his Chicago home on Nov. 2. ​
