The season is closing with a rush for the Leo track team, which will take part in the Catholic League meet at Loyola Academy on Saturday, May 14, followed by the IHSA Class 1-A sectional at Chicago’s Hanson Stadium on Wednesday, May 18.

The size of the Leo contingent to the state meet at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston on May 26-28 will be determined by sectional results.

The Lions boast a typically strong collection of sprinters with seniors David Frye and Miguel Harrell, sophomore Chris Reno and juniors Tyler Goodwin and Justin Rodgers. Senior Chris Winters will be seeking his third consecutive trip Downstate in the shot and discus, and teammate Kenny Taggart hopes to join him as a sophomore. Senior SirLaurence King is a strong threat for points in the two mile and mile, and fellow senior Harvey Moss hopes to contribute at 400 meters.

Leo has captured seven track and field state championships since 1982, more than any other private school in Illinois.
