Leo received great news about its track team well before the start of the season: Hall of Fame Coach Ed Adams is staying on to coach the Lions.
In the midst of a taxing recovery from serious back surgery, Coach Adams felt it best to relinquish his classroom-teaching duties, and he also stepped down as Leo’s athletic director. But his physical therapy has gone well enough that he feels capable of coaching, and he’ll be back directing the Lions as they seek an IHSA record eighth state championship.
“Coach Adams is synonymous with Leo track in the minds of many, and we’re delighted that he’s able to stay involved with a program he has built into a state powerhouse,” Leo Principal Shaka Rawls said.
Sprinters Tobias Sample, Rod-shad Woods and Dorian Woods, weightman Elijah Lamptey and long-jump/triple-jump specialist Devin Flakes were state-meet qualifiers last season and will be in the forefront of Leo’s efforts to win its first state title since 2012.
