Jennifer Fleck spent 10 years as Leo’s Academic Coordinator, working side-by-side with Dr. Rawls to, among other things, supervise the faculty, upgrade the curriculum and make sure each student was taking the classes he needed for graduation and transition to life after Leo.

Needless to say Ms. Fleck left a sizable hole in Leo’s administrative structure earlier this year when she accepted a position as principal at Our Lady of Tepeyac High School, in Pilsen.

Dr. Rawls decided Leo needed two people to fill Ms. Fleck’s role, and he feels blessed to have two outstanding educators from the current faculty available to step in as Assistant Principals: Mr. Titus Redmond and Ms. Tenille Wright. The appointments are effective immediately.

A former basketball standout at Gordon Tech (now DePaul Prep) High School, Mr. Redmond has more than 25 years experience in secondary education, serving as a basketball coach, an athletic director, an admissions director and a dean of students, in addition to his classroom teaching. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in computer science and is working on a Master’s in the art of teaching.

At Leo he has been one of the school’s most influential figures as English Department Chair and coordinator of the public speaking program. Last year Mr. Redmond received an Impact Educator of the Year Award from the Big Shoulders Fund.

“Mr. Redmond’s appointment is not just a response to our school’s growth, but a reflection of excellence,” Dr. Rawls said. “His dedication to Leo, to Catholic education and to our students makes this advancement well-deserved. Mr. Redmond has been a steady and inspiring presence. Leo is a better school because of him. We’re proud to recognize his leadership, celebrate his contributions and support him in this new chapter.”

Ms. Wright, a native Chicagoan, holds an undergrad degree from Governors State and a Master’s from Grand Canyon University, with a focus on Chemistry and STEM subjects. She discovered her passion for teaching while doing service learning projects in Ghana and Panama.

As Leo’s Science Department Chair, Ms. Wright has obtained funding to upgrade the science labs, expand the school’s STEM offerings and add a Robotics component to the curriculum. This year she was selected for participation in the Big Shoulders Fund’s Schreiber Program, which supports classroom instruction and professional development for teachers.

Ms. Wright describes herself as “the unpaired electron the school needs for a perfect reaction.”

“Ms. Wright has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to our Mission, to our young men and to the daily work of supporting teaching and learning at a high level,” Dr. Rawls said. “She has made a meaningful impact on our school community and will help ensure that we meet the academic and social needs of all our students.”
