The Leo baseball team saw its rebuilding season end at the Regional quarterfinal level, with a 10-1 loss to Hope Academy at Hope’s Altgeld Park home field on Wednesday, May 15. The Lions reached the quarterfinal by outlasting Horizon McKinley Charter 22-20 in a first-round game on Monday, May 13. The victory was Leo’s first in postseason play since the 2016 season.
Uncertain weather and the Lions’ inexperience were contributing factors to a six-win campaign; when weather-imposed makeup games piled up toward the end of the season, Leo didn’t have the pitching depth to compensate.
Seniors Jonathan Randle, Jokon Cousett and Trent Roberts will be missed, but with freshmen Evan Hill and P.J. Brown leading a strong group of returnees, better days are ahead for Leo baseball.
