To the Leo High School Community:

I hope this letter finds you and your family in good health and rejuvenated this holiday season. We have been working hard to prepare for our young men for the resumption of the 2021-22 school year. As you know, we are still in the midst of a pandemic, and our school is not immune to the conditions that impact the city, the country and the world.

With that, and with much prayer and an abundance of caution, we have elected to start the second semester remotely. This means we will run synchronous classes from January 3, 2022 until January 18. All course work will be collected and classroom attendance will be taken, and all students must log-on to each class. Ample notice will be given in the event of modifications to schedules, but the 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. school day will be the norm each day of remote learning.

This approach will allow families participating in holiday gatherings to return to school 10 days after the holiday break. It gives our parents the opportunity to get our boys tested, while also allowing time to properly quarantine and return to school in the safest manner possible.

I realize this may be an inconvenience for some families, but with positivity numbers up 63 percent (https://www.chicago.gov/city/en/sites/covid-19/home/covid-dashboard.html) and hospitalizations up 28 percent over the past week, we believe this action is necessary and feel compelled to take it. Our primary goal is to ensure the health and safety of our Leo Community during these difficult times. By taking this action, we are mitigating as much as possible the possibility of COVID-19 spreading within our community.

By following the science and CDC guidelines, we hope and pray we are moving in the right direction for our school. As always, please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

Please keep our school community in your prayers as we continue to live out our mission and educate our young men, helping them develop into responsible, productive, engaged citizens.

May God continue to care for our community.

With gratitude and sincere best regards,

Shaka A. Rawls

Why Leo?

The Leo brotherhood

Leo Men are part of the Leo family. Leo Men are always there for Leo students, Leo staff and fellow Leo Men. A Leo student becomes a member of the Leo family from the day he walks through our door. Leo students join a legion of Leo Men once they graduate. As a Leo Man, you can count on enduring friendships, support, and love of your Leo brothers for the rest of your life.

Facta Non Verba

Deeds not words. The Leo motto will carry you through what you do in the classroom, on the field, in your community and in life. A Leo Man acts, he cares, he supports, he works hard, he makes a difference. From the day you enter Leo you will understand to live Facta Non Verba.

Strong Academic Culture

Leo High School offers College Prep and Honors Curriculum. Our educational leaders have developed a rigorous and well-rounded curriculum designed to prepare our students for the “next step”—college, the military or the work force—as they convert 21st century challenges into opportunities.

Our staff is committed to working with students and challenging them to give their best and be there best. Our small class sizes ensure each student gets the support and attention he needs to succeed.

You’ll never feel like a number here at Leo.

Championship Athletic Tradition

Athletics is a rich and rewarding part of Leo High School’s tradition and history. We can count over 61 championships since 1926 and can proudly boast of titles in track, basketball and football. Our teams are respected around the nation and our student-athletes are heavily recruited, as much for their character, discipline and academic achievements as their athletic talent.

Big Shoulders Fund Pllus

Our school participates in Big Shoulders Fund Plus, which is an initiative in 30 schools across Chicago. Big Shoulders made this commitment in recognition of  the exceptional value our school provides to families and the important role we play in the community. We will be partnering closely with Big Shoulders Fund to strengthen our school’s long-term sustainability and vitality.
