In its commitment to educate the total person, Leo offers a full complement of extracurricular activities designed to meet the needs and interests of every student. A six-sport interscholastic athletic program is the centerpiece of Leo’s extracurricular offerings. Leo, with multiple state and city championships to its credit, boasts one of the richest sports legacies in the city, and the tradition continues as the Lions excel in basketball, football, track, baseball, bowling and cross country. Boxing and wrestling are club-level sports, though the plan is to restore wrestling to varsity status now that it has been revived after a period of dormancy.

The highly talented Gospel Choir, under the direction of Ms. LaDonna Hill, headlines Leo’s fine and performing arts offerings. A Chess Club, a Digital Film Club and a Spanish Club are also offered. Students who might be contemplating a business career can join the Entrepreneur’s Club, whose sponsor is Mr. Ty Warner, founder of Beanie Babies and other toys sold under the Tyco Products label.

Aspiring ad men can apply for enrollment in the University of Illinois Media/Ad Camp, in which two Leo Men are selected as participants each year. Several Leo Men who are engaged in the practice of law offer a pre-law course to aspiring attorneys each year. The Oriole, Leo’s on-line school newspaper, offers students a chance to develop their media skills. We have an active chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, and the Theology Department offers students Campus Ministry training.

Facta Non Verba—Deeds Not Words—is our school motto.

“A sound mind in a sound body” sums up our approach to education.
