The second act of Bob Hallberg’s coaching career is proving even more fruitful than the first.

Hallberg, a 1962 Leo grad and an All-Catholic League honoree as a lightweight basketball player, just completed his 17th season as women’s coach at St. Xavier University after 20-plus years as men’s coach at Kennedy High School, St. Xav’s, Chicago State and UIC. By any measure it was his most successful season. The Lady Cougars went 34-3 and finished second in the NAIA national tournament, dropping a 66-52 decision in the title game to Marian (Ind.)  in Sioux City, Ia., after winning regular-season and conference tournament titles in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Hallberg is now 449-118 at St. Xav’s, where he also serves as athletic director, and 934-391 as a college coach. The Leo Family salutes him for his lifelong dedication to his profession.
