Junior Christopher Winters was the grand prize winner as Leo saluted 39 Semester 1 honor-roll students at an honors assembly at the school on Thursday, Feb. 5.

“This is the highest number of honor students we’ve had during my time at Leo, and I’ve been here 10 years,” said Mr. Frank Wilson, Leo’s vice principal.

Winters’ 4.29 grade-point average was Leo’s highest for the 2014-15 fall semester. He was one of seven students to achieve a GPA of 4.0 or higher.

The soft-spoken, 6-foot-6 Winters is a true student-athlete, earning that GPA while also competing in varsity basketball, cross country and track and performing as a featured vocalist in Leo’s highly acclaimed gospel choir.

“Christopher represents the best of what Leo has to offer,” Leo Principal Phil Mesina said. “We’re very proud of this group. They have worked hard to earn these grades.”
