The school auditorium received a long-overdue paint job and several recently painted classrooms were scrubbed and buffed as 60 volunteers from the legal department at United Airlines visited Leo for a “Lend-a-Shoulder Day” on Tuesday, Sept. 26.

Lend-a-Shoulder Day is a program sponsored by the Big Shoulders Fund that assigns volunteers from the corporate world to Big Shoulders-affiliated schools for clean-up, repair and improvement projects. The volunteers also make it a point to interact with students and offer career advice, help with college choices and preparation and suggestions on how to improve study habits and develop workplace skills. Leo is generally the beneficiary of two Lend-a-Shoulder days per year, one in the fall and one during the spring.

“Big Shoulders is a truly valuable ally to the Leo Mission,” Leo Principal Shaka Rawls said. “They assist us on many different levels. We wouldn’t be the school we are today without their support.”
