There’s no such thing as a rebuilding season where the Leo Choir is concerned. The singers wrapped up another busy year with four performances in May that highlighted the Choir’s versatility and enhanced its world-renowned status.
The annual Spring Concert took place at Leo on Wednesday, May 8. The Drum Line and Mrs. Hill’s beginning music class joined the Choir in a festive 90-minute performance that delighted a large, enthusiastic crowd.
The concert was moved to the gym to accommodate the renovation work taking place in the Leo auditorium, but regardless of the venue, Leo’s musicians and singers never sounded better.
Four days later, the Choir provided the background music for Leo’s 89th commencement ceremony at St. Margaret of Scotland. The splendid acoustics of the spacious old church brought out the best in the singers, who added an extra layer of excitement to a joy-filled event.
On Saturday, May 18, the Choir journeyed to Ukrainian Village and headlined a “Slide Into Summer” program hosted by St. Nicholas of Tolentine Parish. They were again the headline act a week later, lending their talents to the New Faith Church Choirfest right here in Auburn Gresham.
Seniors Devale Alsup, Schron Brown and Jamahl Douglas will be missed, but some of this year’s truly outstanding voices belonged to underclassmen. So the future for the world-renowned Leo High School Choir is undeniably bright.
