Leo High School’s commitment to giving back to the community was on display over the Christmas Holiday break.

On Sat., Dec. 20, a Leo delegation consisting of Coach Mike Holmesthree Parents Club members and eight Leo student volunteers assisted Rev. Michael Pfleger with a turkey-and-toys giveaway for the needy at St. Sabina Parish. More than 1,000 neighborhood families received free Christmas turkeys.

On Christmas Eve, Athletic Director Ed Adams, track coach Andre Weathers, cross country coach Marcus Pass and 12 members of the track and cross country teams spent the entire morning at St. James Shelter, where they helped set up for Christmas dinner and prepared food baskets for Christmas Day distribution to the needy. The track team members who participated were: Sirlaurence King, Damone Seals-Templeton, Deontae McCoy, Antione Dunning, Demon Fox, Leydell Smith, Derrick Golden, Justin Rogers, Darrell Johnson, Russell Lamb, Samuel Starks, Teyari Jackson, Rashun Thurman and David Frye.

The track and cross country teams have a longstanding relationship with St. James, which always welcomes Leo’s participation in its charitable endeavors.
