As college letters of acceptance continue to roll in for Leo seniors, Marquis Williams had a dream realized when he was admitted to the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Ct.

Williams will attend an Academy-sponsored prep school for a year, then begin his training to become a Coast Guard officer. He’ll be commissioned as an ensign and serve five years of active duty minimum when he graduates.

“We’re very proud of Marquis because of how hard he worked to make this happen,” Leo Principal Phil Mesina said.

“My dream school,” is how Williams put it.

Williams hopes to study engineering at the academy, and play football. He was a key contributor as a running back to Leo’s state playoff semifinal team as junior, but missed his senior season with a knee injury that required surgery. That knee has recovered enough that he passed his academy physical exam.

“I’m looking forward to getting the next phase of my life started,” Williams said.
