Coach Holmes

Students learn the importance of looking you in the eye and offering a firm handshake.

“I take great pride in the number of young men I have encouraged and helped attend college to pursue their dreams at the next levels.

Attending Leo allowed me to understand that there is very little difference in human beings — only their desire and effort to accomplish what they want to do in life. Leo allows me the opportunity to continue working with young people, to help them understand their possibilities for successful lives, while also maintaining and improving one of the great educational institutions in Chicago.”

Coach Mike Holmes ‘76 is one of the most decorated athletes in Leo history, an all-stater in baseball and an All-American in football. A member of the Leo High School Hall of Fame, he was named Leo Man of the Year by the Alumni Association in 2017.

Coach Holmes is known throughout the city for developing successful student-athletes and for being a father figure to many young men, not only at Leo but from the neighborhood as well.

“Students learn the importance of looking you in the eye and offering a firm handshake. They carry themselves with confidence and determination and support for  each other. This year, all graduates were accepted to colleges, many with high academic awards and generous financial assistance.”
