Seniors Latrell Giles and James Britten Jr. ended their Leo football careers with a flourish by signing national letters of intent to play college football, on scholarship.
Giles, a three-year starter at quarterback, signed with St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Ind. Britten, also a three year starter at tight end and linebacker/defensive end, signed with Northern Illinois, where he will team with Keith Harris Jr., a 2012 Leo graduate who plays running back for the Huskies.
Giles, also a three-year starter in basketball, led the Lions to a 10-3 record, a Catholic League Red Division championship and a berth in the IHSA state playoff semifinals as a junior. He repeated as an All-Conference selection as the Lions went 4-5 in his senior year, and he was runner-up for Red Division Offensive Player of the Year.
Britten, also a third-place finisher as a heavyweight in Catholic League wrestling, won the Red Division Defensive Player of the Year award as a senior and was named to the All-Conference first team in both his junior and senior years.
“James and Latrell developed into terrific football players during their four years at Leo, but more important, they also matured into outstanding young men,” Leo coach Mike Holmes said. “This is a tremendous accomplishment and we’re very proud of them,”
